We all know today is 15th August Independence Day. It is a very great day for us as a citizen of India. Today everyone is sharing photos and updating status on all the social media sites, like the whole country is coloured with tricolour. We all celebrate this day every year with full zeal and in patriotic way. We all have a cordial nature for our soldiers. We will always remember the sacrifice of soldiers in Jammu Kashmir operation (1948), China war (1962), Pakistan war (1965), Bangladesh war (1971), IPKF operation Pawan in Sri Lanka (1987), Kargil conflict (1999), and many more operations that gave befitting response to those who tried to dismantle the sovereignty of India.

It feels very good to see everyone is patriotic and showing love towards the country but this feeling should be long lasting not only on Independence Day or in Republic day. In these two days we proudly hoist flag everywhere but after one or two days we saw many tore flags on the road, in garbage like a waste paper. It should not be the case because it is our identity but also it is our nation’s identity. All other 200 plus countries recognise us with this identity and we are bound to respect the national symbols of our country.

Can we introspect ourselves? How much more can we contribute in the advancement of our nation, and I am not talking about the bigger things. But the smaller ones that can contribute to make our country a better place. Standing on the border as a soldier or being an IAS/IPS/IS officers or a politician, is not the only way that we can serve the country. There are many other ways. Being responsible citizens towards the country is also enough.

If I talk about such Swachh Bharat, government has to devote a very heavy amount just to clean roads, parks and many more public places, that amount can be curtailed. If I talk about smoking, drinking or chewing tobacco, government has to devote a very heavy amount just to advertise for not to succumb to such things, that heavy amount can also be curtailed.

In our country we find many people talking about their rights; what they want, what they should get, how they should get, and all. But none of them talk about their responsibilities as a citizen.

Many more small things that can make a big difference in our life that can bring a change in our society. Let’s take an initiative to develop a habit of taking pledge in each Independence Day and in Republic day not just to celebrate but to contribute to make a better society by being a best citizen of The Great India.

Let's take a pledge for…
  • We pledge not to smoke/ drink/ chew tobacco, especially not in public places and forbade others.
  • We pledge not to litter and forbade others not to litter.
  • We pledge not to spit or urinate in inappropriate places.
  • We pledge not to abuse in public places.
  • We pledge to help and respect senior citizens not only inside home but also outside.
  • We pledge to respect the rights, believe and opinions of others irrespective of cast, religion, colour, sex, or age.
  • we pledge to follow the Fundamental Duties defined in constitution
  1. Abide by the Constitution and respect national flag & National Anthem
  2. Follow ideals of the freedom struggle
  3. Protect sovereignty & integrity of India
  4. Defend the country and render national services when called upon
  5. Spirit of common brotherhood
  6. Preserve composite culture
  7. Preserve natural environment
  8. Develop scientific temper
  9. Safeguard public property
  10. Strive for excellence
  11. Duty of all parents/guardians to send their children in the age group of 6-14 years to school.
If everyone can do such small things that can bring a bigger difference in the society and can make it a better place…
