THE GREAT INDIAN #6

I am not comfortable with my picture. I am sorry for that, but for now let's start from my childhood. It was not good news for our family. We had to leave our original city. My father got transfer in different city. I was a child, my family moved to that different city where I was brought up and did my schooling. I did not explore my original city much. So, I eagerly waited for the summer vacations when I could go to my original city and met my maternal grandmother.

My father works in police department. It was very surprising for me when I first saw my new house. It was a big building of traditional employee quarters. The lower part of this building was a police station and upper part was dedicated for residence.

My father saw all the boys and girls of his senior officials go to St. Johns convent school. So without thinking much, I also got admission in that school. My father chose this school for my best studies.

My childhood was much disciplined and very memorable as everyone’s. But the different thing was that my father taught and looked after this discipline. He supposed us to be a better citizen. I had to follow a particular time for sleeping and waking up. I along with my father woke up at 3AM in the morning and used to go for jogging. After that I used to study. My education till 9th standard carried on in St. Johns convent school.

Again the news of my father’s transfer came. But this time I did not sort it out whether it was good or bad. We had to leave for next city. I was happy as we were moving to our original city but very sad for my school and friends. I had so many memorable things here. I was weeping when everyone one packing luggage.

We arrived to our original home where I was born. My father was searching for a new school. He took me to different schools and asked my opinion but no one could like such small schools. My pervious school was very big which occupied more than three thousands student it operated in two shifts. My younger brother used to go in morning shift and he came back home afternoon in a rickshaw. The same rickshaw again I used to sit which drop me to the same school. It was very memorable thing that I still remember.

Recalling one event from my previous school, I thought that changed my life. I was in math's class. Class ended and teacher left the class room. I shouted in very relax voice, “math's class ended.” But what I saw was totally surprising. Teacher entered again in the class and asked, “Who shouted?” Everyone was quite teacher saw us with staring eyes. One of my friends stood up and fingered towards me. The teacher scolded me in front of whole class. That was very awkward moment for me. Whether some of the students also teased me by saying, “You deserve this, you are a stupid Guy.” I did not mind them but learnt a lesson.

Next day the same teacher came to the class and announced for maths competition and distribution of prizes for top students. I was sure that I would win this competition and show my capability. I thought, “I am a good student I am not a stupid one.” And the result of this came, I got hundred marks out of hundred in math's and the same teacher called me on stage and gave prize to me.

My father was very strict for my studies. Sometime he beat me in front of the school whenever I scored less marks. So, I always tried to get more than 90% marks.

I was going to join a school education in my original city. But I would have to pass an entrance exam to get admission. Next day I was prepared for the entrance exam. But the school counsellor saw all the mark sheets of all the classes and found that I had more than 90% marks in every class. She said, “You are a bright student whose academics is excellent and we do not want to waste our time on entrance exam but you can join from tomorrow.” That was very proud moment for me and for my father also.

And again my hard work retained my excellent position on the stage where I was going to acquire prize and school certificate for securing highest marks in my class, it was 91 %. It was also published in times of India newspaper. The piece of that newspaper in which my name was published, my father showed to all of his friends. I again felt very proud.

School education closed but started to study for engineering entrance exam. I did not take any coaching to crack engineering entrance exam but drop one year for this preparation. I studied in a very reputed college though private. I was an average student there. After final year of my graduations everyone from my class was going to Delhi for preparing GATE exam. I was also with them. Though tried very hard but did not get placement from the college. I started my journey from college to GATE exam with so much enthusiasm and hard work but did not clear. I prepared for two years to crack technical exam. I did not get success in these technical exams.

Some of my friends suggested shifting my study from technical to non-technical exams like banking exams. I started preparation for non-technical exams with a coaching. I studied in this coaching only for three months. I did not study much but I was taught how to study!

I applied for Indian railway’s exam in 2016. The preliminary exam held in 2017. The mains exam of it held in 2018. Though, I was preparing for the bank exams. I cleared this Indian railway’s exam which are totally different from the banking exam. I also cleared various exams and selected for different jobs like Delhi metro, SBI PO, LIC, United India insurance, IBPS clerk, IBPS PO, Bank of Baroda.

I got selected in Delhi metro, it consists of the main exam, a psychometric test and one interview followed by medical fitness test. I cleared all the things; it was extremely happy moment for me and for my mother. I did not tell this to my father till now but I was very happy and very thankful to my parents and especially my mother, who prayed so much for this government job.

I suggest students not to attempt exam in fear. I selected for so many jobs and this leads me in dilemma to choose which one is better. I kept on hold some of my joining. I asked my friends and family members of what to choose which one is better. Now I think, I committed some mistake there I should not keep all the jobs on hold. I should join the one which was bond free. If any job has bond then we have to pay some money to break the bond. Joining the job would give some experience and it will be easy to choose rather asking random persons.

Finally I joined Indian railways. The job location was in different city but some distance away from my home city. Some of the senior persons of railway said that I could get my transfer in my home city.
After working for Indian railways, I am glad that I joined Indian railways. As from childhood we all think to live with family in our home I am also getting that comfort along with the pleasure of Indian railways.

I also want to tell about my strategy for the government exams. In our coaching every teacher solves the puzzles question and we all get happy. But when we try the same puzzle question in our home we somehow stuck in it. I was weak in reasoning questions especially in puzzles but I kept on working hard. Some time I attempted puzzles and current affairs question for whole day.

I start my day with jogging and reading newspapers. I attempt speed test per day for 1 hour and analysing questions after attempting. Some time I reattempt the question which I found difficult to solve.

I did not attempt the puzzle questions which include blood relation and time. I was good in English so practice only rather dedicating much time; also I was more than average students in aptitude. For current affairs students should read newspaper and make notes on daily basis.
After so many years, in 2020, I thanked the girl on social media who told my name to the math's teacher. I also told her that that event totally changed my life. From that time I never shouted like that anywhere.
