MEMORISING KUWAIT INVASION IN AFGHANISTAN CRISIS

KUWAIT INVASION

On 2nd August 1990 around 2AM (local time of Kuwait), in the bulk Iraqi forces invaded Kuwait. Kuwait is Iraq’s neighbour and one of the world’s most rich sources of oil. Iraqi forces had motive to capture oil resources and to expand its territory.

Iraqi forces captured railways stations, airports and telephone exchanges first. But they failed to capture emir of Kuwait and his family who fled to Saudi Arabia in his private jet. Iraqi forces disappointed to fulfil the order given by Saddam Hussein. But they were happy to start a provincial government in Kuwait. Iraqi also captured twenty percent of world’s oil resources and first time in history to capture coastline of the Persian Gulf.

On the same day a strict action started by UNSC (United Nations Security council). It demanded to withdraw Iraqi forces from Kuwait. And later on it imposed a worldwide ban on trade with Iraq. To curb Iraqi forces, UNSC started operation Desert Shield and passed a resolution to authorise employ of forces against Iraq if it did not leave Kuwait by 15th January 1991. But Saddam Hussein denied to withdraw his forces and to leave Kuwait. This denied action led to employ 70000 allied forces more in the Middle East to throw Iraqis out and to enforce the resolution passed by UNSC.

On 16th January 1991 around 4:30PM (local time of Kuwait), the U.S. forces started a massive offence against Iraqi forces. British aircraft carriers launched in the Persian Gulf. The US forces pounded Iraqi forces and around Baghdad. The operation Desert Storm was planned under 32 nations which included Britain, Egypt, France, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait etc. This operation carried on almost next six weeks.

On 24th February the US forces had won a little. When it succeeded to capture 10,000 troops of Iraqi forces and established an air base inside Iraq’s territory. And finally four days of continuous attack, Kuwait felt a breath of freedom.

All this supervised under the president George W. Bush. In all this attack more than one million Iraqi people were died either through attack or through a strict UN Sanctions.

AFGHANISTAN CRISIS

There were so many students of Pashto language made a group in northern Pakistan in 1990. That time Soviet Union planned to withdraw its forces from Afghanistan. Pashto movement was emerging through religious seminars. This Pashto movement was funded by Saudi Arabia mostly from sunny slams. This group of students always showed motive to restore peace, security and enforce Sharia Empire, whenever they were in power.

In 1995 Taliban was successful in capturing Herat, the province border with Iran. After one year they captured the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul by throwing out President Burhanuddin Rabbani’s regime. Afghans had felt peace after Rabbani’s impolite actions on public and withdrawal of Soviet forces. They welcomed Taliban regime. They found well developed law and order, curb in corruption and good roads to optimise commerce in Taliban regime.

Despite making good roads to optimise commerce industry, Taliban started to impose its own laws like, public execution of convicted murderers’ and amputation of stealing persons’ etc.

Taliban imposed ban on cinema, music and watching television. It also restricted entry of girls of more than ten year old to attend school. Women had to cover herself fully, had to wear burka. Men had to grow beard.

In February 2020 a deal was signed by the US and Taliban, also known as peace deal. It was expected a direct talk between them for long term outlook. This deal was for peace and establishing security. Taliban said that it had changed its ideology but the literate people, professionals, journalists, judges, peace activists and woman in power always denied that Taliban had changed its ideology. It only changed its strategy.

Despite crying citizens of Afghanistan over insensitive governments actions towards Taliban, in April 2021 newly formed the US president without any international support announced to withdraw its forces from Afghanistan
.

When the U.S. forces were preparing to leave Afghanistan then here Taliban was preparing to capture Afghanistan. Taliban captured Afghanistan in just ten days after the US forces left. In 15th August Taliban was the king of Kabul. But Taliban failed to capture President Ashraf Ghani and his family who fled to UAE in his private jet. From that time people are trying to flee or heading towards bordering countries. Women are not safe even in burka. Men and women were robbed.

Now it is almost twenty years since the attack on the World Trade Centre happened. The US failed to maintain coalition after twenty years of the US war. Taliban returned to rule on Afghanistan.

  1. History repeats itself. One can differentiate then the US and now the US.
