WHY THIS BOOK: DEEP WORK

Deep work book is written by Cal NewportHow focus can make us not only more productive and effective but happier and more neurologically healthy?

What is difference between shallow work and deep work?

Deep work is the professional activities which are performed in a distraction free concentration that push our cognitive capabilities to our limit. These activities create new value, improve our skills and are hard to replicate.

Shallow work is the non cognitively demanding logistical style activities often performed while distracted. These activities do not create new value in the world and are easy to replicate.

If we want to be more skilled or efficient in this era, we have to engage ourself in deep work. This is not only a state of professional satisfaction but also a way of survival. Top Books

“The market is ruthless.” Cal says. If we are not doing something that is rare and valuable it is not going to be valued much by the market and we may be in trouble.

It is deep work which pushes us; push our brain and our existing skills to our limits that we are actually producing real value things that the market actually values.

“I’m not about saying distractions are bad.” Cal says. I think we have forgotten, however, how valuable their opposite is, we have forgotten how much value is produced by deep work, not only does it produce a lot of value, but it is producing an increasing amount of value.

Deep work is not easy if we are doing it right, mental strain is inevitable but necessary to be better. It is making use of the deliberate practice principle.

The better we are at deep work, the more efficiently and quickly we can learn complicated things.

“The differentiating factor in the 21st century is going to be those who can focus and those who cannot focus.” says Cal. If we are trying to regain our ability to focus, how much focus do we need?

If we are struggling to focus then we have one solution for us, stop working and figure out why our mind is resisting us?

Why we need deep work?

Have we ever felt lazy or feeling demotivated to complete tasks at the office or at home?
