The parables are told by a fictional Babylonian character called Arkad, a poor scribe who evolved as the richest man in Babylon. Incorporated in Arkad's advice are the ‘Seven Cures’ (or how to generate money and wealth), and the ‘Five Laws of Gold’ (or how to protect and invest wealth). An essence of Arkad's advice is around ‘paying yourself first’, ‘living within your means’, ‘investing in what you know’, the importance of ‘long-term saving’, and ‘homeownership’.

Price: ₹70.00

Review

First published in February 1919, ‘My Inventions’ is an enlightening autobiographical account of Nikola Tesla, written at the age of 63. One of the most important technological innovators of the modern industrial age, Nikola Tesla was a Serbian American inventor and engineer who discovered and patented the rotating magnetic field, the root of most alternating-current machinery. He also originated the three-phase system of electric power transmission. He immigrated to the United States in 1884 and sold the patent rights of his system of alternating-current dynamos, transformers, and motors to George Westinghouse. In 1891 he invented the ‘Tesla coil’, an induction coil widely used in radio technology.

This firsthand account reveals the captivating life of a genius. Well-known for the radio, robotics, and wireless energy, Tesla quickly gained international fame for his pioneering inventions. The content of the book was largely drawn from a series of articles that Nikola Tesla had written for Electrical Experimenter magazine. It is a fascinating window into the principles and practices of Tesla’s singular world. Here we witness the art and science behind the conception, execution, and reception of Tesla’s most famous inventions. In this personal account, Tesla tells about his life, how his inventions came to him, and even how his inventions helped save his life. He tells his encounters with famous people, his brushes with death, which happened more than once, and also about some future ideas.

About Author

Nikola Tesla was a Serbian American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current electricity supply system. Tesla gained experience in telephony and electrical engineering before emigrating to the United States in 1884 to work for Thomas Edison in New York City. He soon struck out on his own with financial backers, setting up laboratories and companies to develop a range of electrical devices. His patented AC induction motor and transformer were licensed by George Westinghouse, who also hired Tesla for a short time as a consultant. His work in the formative years of electric power development was also involved in the corporate struggle between making alternating current or direct current the power transmission standard, referred to as the war of currents. Tesla went on to pursue his ideas of wireless lighting and electricity distribution in his high-voltage, high-frequency power experiments in New York and Colorado Springs and made early pronouncements on the possibility of wireless communication with his devices.

Review

The Worlds Within You tells the story of Ami Shekar, who has decided to take a break from her first year of university in the UK and return to her home in Chennai. Ami is stuck, and finds herself fretting, overthinking and retreating into her own head. But she knows that whatever it is that makes her feel 'weird' all the time must have a name to it. And so, Ami is back home, to come to terms with many things: her mental health, her own identity, memories of her grandfather and, finally, herself. Set over the course of seven writing classes, this is an unconventional and melancholic take on what it means to be alive and finding your own emotional support system-no matter how flawed the people within your system might be.

'Sensitive, observant, and honest, The Worlds Within You is a touching debut from a young writer to watch' -- Anjali Joseph

'Moving and elegiac, a first novel with a fine old heart' -- Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi

'A wonderfully-written, clear-eyed novel about growing up, learning to live with yourself, your family and your memories. Moving, funny and incredibly real' -- Shabnam Minwalla

'Tender and deceptively simple, The Worlds Within You is microscopically observed and at the same time has that quality of universality that sets apart good literature from merely passable literature. This may not be a 'unique' novel in terms of plot or ideas, but a good writer-a title Shreya Ramachandran has earned with this book-can make even the most quotidian subject matter interesting and affecting' -- Roshan Ali

About Author

She writes about mental health on her blog, and her work has also appeared in The Hindu, the Swaddle and Spark magazine. She currently lives in Mumbai with an indie dog who behaves part cat. I bet you’ve used counting as a psychological trick to get yourself to do something. Maybe you’ve counted to three before jumping off the diving board at the pool, or tried slowly counting to ten to calm yourself down when you were angry. The main reason these tactics work is that they help us focus on what we need to do and cut out all the consequences we don’t like to consider.

Several years ago, CNN contributor, world-famous speaker and bestselling author Mel Robbins found her own little counting trick. Back then, she was none of those things. She was unemployed, in financial trouble, drinking too much and losing grip on her duties as a mom and wife.

One night, she noticed a commercial on TV that showed a rocket launch. 5…4…3…2…1 – go! The next morning, she decided to launch out of bed like a rocket. After counting down from five, she stood up, and that’s how she discovered The 5 Second Rule. It changed everything.

Here are 3 reasons why this simple idea of a 5-second countdown can do the same for you:

1. Through little acts of courage, the 5 Second Rule makes you less afraid over time.

2.There are three reasons the “right time” will never come, so you just have to start.

3.The 5 Second Rule helps you override your feelings, it’s a psychological intervention.

If you’re sick of telling others and yourself you’re feeling “fine,” when you’re clearly not happy with where you are in life, this is for you. 5…4…3…2…1 – go!

About Author

Mel Robbins is one of the leading voices in personal development and transformation and a New York Times Bestselling author. Her work includes "The High 5 Habit," "The 5 Second Rule," four #1 bestselling audiobooks, the #1 podcast on Audible, as well as signature online courses that have changed the lives of more than half a million students worldwide.

As one of the most widely booked and followed public speakers in the world, Mel coaches more than 60 million people online every month and videos featuring her work have more than a billion views online, including her TEDx talk, which is one of the most popular of all time.

There’s nothing Mel loves more than making a real difference in people’s lives by teaching them to believe in themselves and inspiring them to take the actions that will change their lives. Mel lives in New England with her husband of 25 years and their three kids, but she is and will always be a Midwesterner at heart.
