BOOK REVIEW: FLOW
Flow book is written by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. It is based on how to achieve happiness. I read the book in almost twenty six hours not continuous. The book starts with some questions on pursuit of happiness and roots of discontentment which makes sense and arise a curiosity to read the book and get the answer. Mihaly promises to provide help in achieving the happiness by his study on optimal experience which he termed as flow. The starting chapters of the book are about the problems we have the discontentment from the daily life, the consciousness and the subconscious experience, tries to familiarize our self with the self, an important parameter rather the only impedance in attainment of flow.
The good part starts from chapter four when I really inter into flow. The author emphasizes that attention is responsible for achieving an optimum experience. He also tell about the activities that do not elicit attention which are watching television over reading a book which demands considerable amount of attention.
There are so many ideas in the book like yoga, Taoism, zen, meditation ets. Mihaly discuss each of these ideas by providing examples which makes the book easy to read.
