HOW TO PLAY CHESS
Chess was originated from chaturanga game which was played by Indians in older time. It is played by two players on a board. Chess is very popular game all over the world. It was board which has sixty four squares divided in eight rows and eight columns. There is sixteen pieces of black and white each. The white sixteen pieces are controlled one member and black sixteen pieces are controlled by another member. It is totally a mind game which involves strategies and has no hidden information. The sixteen pieces are one king, one queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights and eight pawns.
In this game each player want to check made another player's king. As the king has been check mate, the game comes over. The player wins the game who check mates another's king.
In chess, rows are called ranks and columns are called files. The player who has white color pieces moves first.
King- moves one step in any direction.
Rook- moves in any number of steps in rank or file but not diagonally.
Bishop- moves in any number of steps diagonally only.
Queen- moves in any number of steps in horizontally, vertically or diagonally. She is also known for having no rules.
Knight- moves in L shape. it moves two steps vertically and one horizontally, or two steps horizontally and one step vertically.
Pawn- moves forward to unoccupied square immediately in front of it on the same file, or on its first move it can advance two square are unoccupied. A pawn can capture an opponent's piece on a square diagonally in front of it by moving to that square. It cannot capture a piece while moving along the same file.
There are some strategies associated with chess like castling, En Passant and Promotion etc.
In the initial phase, practice chess with a friend. And try different moves of opening. Try to think a head of your opponent and guess his moves like, why he had moved that piece? what will happen next?
One can also practice chess while playing online, if you don’t find one to play with. There are some good learning source like watching grand master games on YouTube and listen commentary, another source is newspaper, books and videos. I found watching chess games on YouTube to be more informative one.
Before moving to learn tactics, initially try to play chess as simply as you can.
Hope that one day you will manage to use the same approach on a general problem, beyond games and benefiting humanity.
Very nice explanation... thanks
