Creative writing is something “Do it yourself’’ type skill. Books can only help to guide you. No can teach this fully to another one. You can get from others only guidelines based on standard writing and experience. It is not mysterious and unteachable. Story is teachable, style is teachable, just as tone and theme is.

The debate and arguments are far and against about creative writing is a subject that can be taught, have gone beyond limits. According to Hanif Kureishi, the author of My son the fanatic and Buddha of Suburbia, creative writing courses are a waste of time as he feels that the most of his students show no talent and cannot tell a story. But some of the others like William Faulkner who feels that talent don’t matter so much. The most important qualities include curiosity to wonder, to ponder over why certain thing happens. Those who have these qualities than much talent will succeed.

There are some people who believe that teaching basic music to someone cannot turn them into a Mozart or teaching someone basic drawing wouldn’t turn a student into M.F. Hussain. There are so many people who support that learning skills by masters and imitating them while learning craft techniques allows students to develop their skills. Unlike other art forms, be it painting, music, sculpture, choreography -creative writing can be thought through some points.

Craft- what makes a good story?

What part does narration play?

What is the importance of characterisation?




How important is plot, atmosphere and what are the basic elements of a story?

Technic- how does one control the words, grammar, rhyme, prosody, structure? Process- how to recognise ideas and how to look for them, what to do with them?

How to read: the difference between reading and studying in order to learn a craft.

Power of words- the effect of words, the rhythm, the finer nuances, in fact the magical quality of words.

So, to say that creative writing cannot be taught, will be wrong but we should ask how well the creative writing can be taught?

We all know today is 15th August Independence Day. It is a very great day for us as a citizen of India. Today everyone is sharing photos and updating status on all the social media sites, like the whole country is coloured with tricolour. We all celebrate this day every year with full zeal and in patriotic way. We all have a cordial nature for our soldiers. It was 25 th  2010 July, first day of my engineering college. I was very sincere, so I was there to attend the class there were three boys and two girls, others were absent because it was first day and some people take the first day lightly.
